I walked my son to his very first football practice this morning. It wasn’t even an official practice, more of a pre-practice to get in shape for the real practices. He only stands a little over four feet tall. He only weighs in the double digits. He’s only nine years old. My little man jumped out of bed early in all his excitement. He was dressed and ready to go WAY before I was. He’s a little man with really big dreams. He has been waiting for his turn to play football and suddenly it’s beginning. My mama heart sees a little man with big dreams and a big heart, and his joy and excitement remind me what God does in our hearts through the dreams of our hearts.
Dreams give us wings. Dreams are boosts of grace, of joy, and of delight that give our often weary hearts little tastes of heaven. Dreams push us to God’s heart because they are improbable, seemingly impossible, and sometimes over our heads…and all we can do is hold them up to our Maker. Dreams seem to chase us, then pull us, then knock us down, and then inspire us. Dreams make our hearts beat a little faster. Dreams make our souls soar a little higher.
My son, in all his joy this morning, simply reminded me that dreaming is good. Even for a busy mama, even for a dancer whose body is feeling 35, even for a writer whose writing dreams seem on hold. Dreaming does something in us. Something heavenly. Something divine.
What’s your dream? What keeps you up at night? What interrupts your thoughts during the day? What grabs your attention? Have you prayed about it? Have you brought it to the Lord? And will you surrender it? Will you lay it down in surrender and ask God to chase you back with His dreams?
All I want are God’s dreams now. And I’m starting to taste that they are better than my own. It’s a dreaming dance. But the dreaming keeps my heart dancing.
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
Proverbs 13:12
Go. Dream. Pray. Surrender.

This was exactly what I needed. I have been struggling with my new business. For the first time I have decided to follow my heart and be involved with something I am passionate about. Sometimes the world can be such a distraction, with people who try to sway you from your path. I feel as though I need to stop worrying and just let God take control, because he is the reason I love what I do. Thank you for this post.
