I do not know where you come from or where you are at, but I know we definitely have one thing in common, we know ballet. We know the world of ballet, the ups and downs, the joy of performing and hearing the roar of the audience, the frustration in the studio, the time that goes into an art we love, the theater that feels like a second home, the aching feet, the sore muscles, the bond with other dancers and people in our field, the disappointment, the excitement, the effort and the struggles, and we agree that USUALLY it is worth it! I have written this devotional in order to encourage those dancers and the dance world people out there that I will probably never meet. I wish I had had a devotional that related specifically to ballet dancers when I was a young professional beginning my career. You may already know the One who is the giver of your gifts, who died to save you and set you free, or you may not know Him at all. But I would love for you to know Him or to get to know Him better. And the language I know is dance. I hope your heart is encouraged, strengthened, and restored as you draw closer to the One who made you and loves you. My prayer for you is that these devotionals will help you relate the Bible to what you are going through and therefore elevate the value of God’s Word in your life. I pray that it will give you a hunger and desire to dig into God’s Word on a daily basis.
“Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with tambourine and harp.” Psalm 149:3
Dancing, cooking, running, working, doing laundry…any of these activities can be done as an act of praise to our Lord! In fact, when we do these things for His glory, we are blessed and we enjoy what we are doing more! (yes, even the laundry!) That is because He loves us and wants us to enjoy whatever it is we are doing. Isn’t it sweet that God would mention dancing and making music in His holy Word! He loves beauty and He designed us as women to bring beauty to our world. So whatever you are doing today, do it for Jesus’ glory. Things that feel mundane, can be fun and exciting when you use it to praise the Lord!
Prayer: “Dear Jesus, thank you for the tasks You’ve given me to do today. Help me have a spirit of praise today and a joyful heart as I go about my day. Help me remember that my (….fill in the blank…dancing, cooking, working, yard work, etc…..) can bring glory to You and make the world around me more beautiful in big and small ways.”
