“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
What do you do on days when you wake up, and you can hardly move to get yourself out of bed because you are SO SORE from the day before? You know the feeling! Oddly enough, I love being sore because it is a physical reminder of how hard my muscles worked the day before…it’s evidence that I was pushing to the max in ballet class or rehearsal….it makes me feel like something is getting stronger.
But of course it hurts! The hardest part about being sore is that usually you have to get up the next morning and put your body through the same rehearsal….this time adding sore muscles to the mix. I want to encourage you not to get discouraged in your soreness….this too shall pass! Soreness is good because, like I said, it is proof of your hard work. The toughest weeks of a dancer’s career are the first week back after a break. It always feels so good to get back to class, your feet and muscles feel good, you feel energized, so you go full out! Then the next morning….you can hardly move! And they say, the third day of soreness is the worst! Yikes! But once that soreness passes, isn’t it amazing how our bodies recover and adjust to the physicality level that it needs to be at, and the next thing you know…you are past the soreness and dancing without your legs feeling like jello! As much as I dread this process, I love it! It feels good to be sore and let your body go through that! My husband always catches me bracing myself going down the stairs in our house or watching me limp from the couch to the kitchen. He just smiles.
He knows I would not want it any other way.
“This too shall pass” was one of THE best parenting tips I ever received! Particularly through the sleepless nights, potty training, temper tantrums, and exhaustion. We also have a promise from the Bible that we can hold on to through anything….I like the Message version of this verse also…..”I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” I can do this ballet class, this rehearsal, this potty training, this task, this work, whatever it may be for you.
You can do it with Christ’s strength. I cannot explain the mystery, but He promises His power in you when You depend on Him. Lean on Him.
Prayer: “Thank You for Your promises. Thank You that You give me strength for whatever I am dealing with or doing. Help me lean on Your strength, not mine.”
