“Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31
When you get that restless feeling, what do you do with it? How do you shake it? I am finally learning to recognize that restlessness as a signal that I need time with my Father.
I can be going about my life, trying to do this Christian life, in my own strength. Trying to do the right things, say the right things, be the right person, not do the wrong things, check off all my to-do’s from my lists, then add in eating right, exercising, and encouraging my children, ahhh my car needs gasoline, and oh yeah I need to go put the clothes in the dryer, and where’s Colt’s other shoe?, to oh I feel tired, I’ll just fight through it, to I have a dream to do this, but I’ll never have time to do that, to oh homework….we need to make sure homework is done, and brush teeth, and then all that can lead into this restless feeling…..and I think, what is that….I’ll just shove it down because it is really bothersome and just uncomfortable and if I think about it too much…..my eyes may well up with tears….and I don’t have time for that…..
Do you know that thought pattern? And do you know this restlessness? This uneasiness of the mind or the heart?
We can run to all kinds of things to try and relieve our restless hearts. What do you run to?
Jesus invites us: “Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Maybe it is going on a walk and just pouring out your heart to Him. Maybe it is reading His Word on your front porch with your coffee in the morning. Maybe it is praying to Him while you’re going to sleep. It may look different every day. But the point is, is that He is the answer to Your restlessness. He solves it, soothes it, melts it away. He brings rest when You come to Him.
Let the words of this song by Third Day encourage you to go to Him for a heart at rest:
“Ever since the world around you shattered, you’ve been looking everywhere for something more.
Sometimes you feel like your life doesn’t matter, but it does, I tell you it does…
Come on let Me love you now
Come on let Me love you
And hold you through the storms
I will keep you safe and warm
I will kiss away your tears
I will always be here
Come on let Me love you
Yesterday you found your heart was broken and tomorrow doesn’t leave much room for hope
Today you’ll find that My arms are wide open and My heart, My heart is full of love….
Give up on all the other things ’cause My love can bring you more
And if you take a chance on Me I’ll give you what you’re looking for…..”
When He is your daily fuel, when you make that time with Him each day vital, your heart can be at peace and you can enjoy life!
Prayer: “Jesus, help me come to you daily because you set my heart at rest. Thank You so much for loving us and for caring so deeply for us and that you give us hope for lives.”
