“know the Word that sustains the weary” Isaiah 50:4
What makes you weary? First, let’s define weary: weary means physically or mentally exhausted by hard work, exertion or strain. It also means fatigued and tired. What is it about your daily routine, or your daily grind, that causes you to feel weary? Note that weary can be a physical state as well as a mental state of exhaustion.
For me, when I am in my daily routine of being a mom, what can be wearing to me is the hour leading up to dinner time when stomachs are growling, kiddos are getting tired, Mommy is getting tired and hungry, and attitudes are getting whiny. That is what makes me weary as a mom.
In my other role as ballet dancer, weariness hits in the form of just staying above my doubts. Almost like treading water, trying to stay afloat above the voices in my head that try to tell me: “You are not good enough”, “you are not skinny enough”, or “you should just give up” or “your director doesn’t notice you.”…..weary.
I love this verse today because it is short and simple and to the point. It matter of factly reminds us that GOD’S WORD SUSTAINS THE WEARY. Sustain means: to support, hold, bear up from below, bear the weight of a burden. So God’s Word supports, holds, and bears the weight of our burdens. His Word is there to help us, encourage us, guide us, and support us. Very simply, the verse says “know” the Word…..understand it, apprehend it clearly and with CERTAINTY, to have it FIXED or ESTABLISHED in the mind or memory…..
We all want relief in our weariness. Weariness can be a good thing to feel sometimes because it causes us to stop and think….and to lean on something…..I pray you choose to lean on Jesus and sit down with Him and get to know His Word because He promises that His Word SUSTAINS us in our weariness.
Prayer: “Jesus, thank You for reminding me that You and Your Word are the answer to my weariness. I want to know Your Word….show me where to start, show me how to get to know Your Word and therefore get to know You. Thank You that You have given us Your Word.”
