“Deep calls to deep into the roar of Your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me. By day the Lord directs His love, at night His song is with me – a prayer to the God of my life.” Psalm 42:7-8
God wants you to know today that yes, His love is living water, and yes, His grace hydrates your thirsty soul, and yes He refreshes you, but…..
He has more for you…
His love is like a gushing waterfall….not just a trickle of water….His love is loud and powerful and He wants His love to sweep over you….to sweep over your life. His love is so strong that you can FLOAT on the waves of His grace and love, resting in the fact that You are loved and treasured in the arms of God.
How do we get swept away by His love for us? How do we not grow complacent? How do we remember how great it is to belong to Jesus when life gets busy and hectic?
We start thanking Him. You know how you love certain things? Like for example, I have this thing with the color purple….plum purple…it’s my favorite color and it makes my heart sing. So I have a purple ipad case, a purple dayplanner, a purple iphone case, a purple notepad, and anytime my kiddos make me something at school….they make it purple. I also get so giddy when fall comes because it brings me these homey memories of going to Canton to shop with my mom, Grandmother and Grandfather….being outside, wandering around looking at all the unique finds, the smell of kettle corn in the air, and noticing all the fall decorations starting to appear…….
What makes your heart sing?
I know Legos, scooters, play-dates with cousins, and Superheroes make my boys’ hearts sing….
What is the pointe (hee hee) of taking note of what makes our hearts sing?
It forces us to slow down and to notice how God is pursuing us. Thanking God for the gifts in our lives, as Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts, talks about, is really noticing how much our God loves us. He delights in finding little and big ways to love on you in order for you to feel His love. His gifts for you are His way of saying, “I love you so much. I know you so well. I know exactly what makes your heart sing.”
So I challenge us to take note of the little things we are thankful for. Let God show us how much He loves us, and therefore, let our hearts be encouraged and strengthened in our faith because as we notice how personally He loves us, our hearts learn to trust Him more. Then our hearts learn to rest in His care, and we will feel the overflow and the gush of His love.
Prayer: “Thank You, Lord, that You desire for me to know the depths of Your love to the full extent. Help me today notice each gift from you. Let the gifts point me to Your love.”
