SOMETIMES I FORGET

“Then they said, ‘Ask God whether or not our journey will be successful.’
“Go in peace,” the priest replied, “FOR THE LORD IS WATCHING OVER YOUR JOURNEY.” or as another version puts it, “YOUR JOURNEY HAS THE LORD’S APPROVAL.”

Judges 18:5-6

Sometimes, I need a gentle reminder, no sometimes I need a LOUD reminder that God is in the details and that He is on this journey through life with me. A reminder that God is working behind the scenes. Sometimes I forget, and I get caught up in worry, fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Those emotions drain my faith….

I do not know where you are at today or what your circumstances may be, but let’s remember together:

He is watching over your journey…whatever your journey is right now in this season.

Think about the audience’s view of a ballet performance. They see the final product. They see the beauty and the elegance. The dancers make it all look effortless. They make it look easy.
What the audience does not see is all that is going on behind the scenes to make this show a success….the stage manager speaking lighting cues into his or her headphones, the crew in charge of lighting and backdrops and scenery changes, the workers handling all of the props and making sure each prop is in its correct spot, the lighting crew who sits way up in the rafters somewhere making sure all the lights are doing their job, and the dancers preparing their shoes, costumes, and bodies to give their best performance….

My sweet husband has watched backstage a couple of times, and I love how he thought it was so interesting to see all that goes on behind the scenes. He was especially amazed at how hard I was breathing when I came off the stage to breathe for a few seconds and then would run back on smiling and enchanting the audience….without letting them know how hard my dancing really was.

I think sometimes all we see on our journey through whatever we are going through is the surface of it….God sees and is behind that picture….working tirelessly on your behalf. I imagine Him orchestrating, intervening, and working in all of the details…for YOU, for your life. He is busy behind the scenes, even when we feel like nothing is happening.

So don’t lose heart, dear friend, when you feel like you are waiting for an answer to prayer, or waiting for God’s direction in your life, or just waiting for His peace to pour over you….

Talk to Him about it and KNOW that He is at work behind the scenes….at work on your behalf.

Prayer: “Dear Lord, you know how I easily forget that You are at work in the details of my life. Help me remember that you are always watching over my journey. Thank You for your constant work in my life and when I lose sight of You, draw me back to You.”
