“Watch over your heart (or your child’s heart) with ALL DILIGENCE, for from it flow the springs of life.” Proverbs 4:23
“Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33
Throughout my years of being a Mommy, (8 years! Woohoo!) I have felt a nagging question in my heart that I think many women in my generation feel too….the question of our hearts, is “Is it okay just to be a Mommy?” I often run into conversations like this, “So awesome, three boys! Wow! So what else do you do?” And for so long, I thought I had to have an answer. I have asked this same question to other moms as well, not meaning to undermine what they do as a mom…it’s just the natural question these days. But all along, I have felt this STRONG desire to be with my kiddos as much as possible. To just be there. I remember growing up, my beautiful mom was alway there. Just there. When I came home, she was there. And her presence gave me security, confidence, and just a sense of “all is well.” What I want to encourage you in if you are a mom of young hearts is to listen to that desire in you to be with them. I am not going to go into all the different scenarios of working, staying home, working part time…..I know that everybody’s situation is completely different, but I do want to encourage you that that desire in you to be with those little hearts is a God-given desire. When we embrace our calling as mommies, I am now convinced that the rest will fall into place….”Seek first the kingdom of God (the stuff that is eternal like shaping a child’s heart)….”
“Watch over your heart”….listen to your heart, and enjoy the little opportunities to watch over your child’s heart throughout each day. They need you to shape, teach, train, and guard their sweet little hearts.
I love this quote by Sally Clarkson, author of The Mission of Motherhood…..
“Once we have made the choice to wholehearted motherhood, other decisions will fall into place.”
You are an awesome Mommy. What you do day in and day out matters. Fist bump to you because you are doing an awesome job!
Prayer: “Thank You, Jesus, for making me a Mommy and thank You for that deep ache in my heart to be with my kiddos. Thank You for teaching me to embrace mommyhood.”
