“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul…” Psalm 23:1-3
Over the weekend, I got to visit the ballet company that I danced for ten years ago and see some old friends. It was so great to see familiar faces, particularly one friend who is a fellow Mommy and ballerina….I don’t come by many dancing Mommies in everyday life! It was so fun to reminisce over memories, catch up, and see the faces of the people that gave me a shot at dancing professionally. To hug their necks, say thank you for seeing my potential fifteen years ago, and to cheer on dancers who were performing that weekend. (who by the way, danced beautifully!) It was good for my soul to go back there and remember and to reflect. And if anything, it spurred me on to keep writing because I was also reminded that we live in a fallen world. I saw people hurting because of divorce. I saw Christian friends struggling to stand strong in their faith because of politics. I saw young dancers on the brink of their career, wondering if they will get a job as a professional dancer or not. Oh how I remember how unsettling that was and how weighty the pressure was to be the best dancer I could be. I was just reminded that sometimes it feels like darkness is winning. My heart hurts for some old friends that are going through tough things. And if you are one of those people who happen to be reading this today, I want to pass on to you a piece of hope to hang on to…..
You can can have hope even in chaos. You can have peace even in pain. You can have joy in your struggle. The Lord is watching over you, even in this thing that you are going through. Look up. He’s waiting for you. He wants to help you. He wants to lead you. He wants to lead your life. You don’t have to get your life all together first. Just look up.
I also had a chance to literally sit by a river this weekend. I cannot recall the last time that I literally sat by a river. Those sounds of the river…the peaceful, quiet, constant flowing, and methodical trickling… “He leads me beside quiet waters…He restores my soul…” He brings you peace. He quiets your heart. His love is constantly flowing towards you and His joy will trickle into your heart when you let Him lead.
So wherever you are, whatever you have been through, look up. He wants to lead. And you will find out, that His lead is best, good, comforting, freeing, and peaceful.
Prayer: “Dear Lord, thank You for being the Shepard of my life. Thank You for being my calm in chaos, my light in darkness, and my constant hope. You know where I am at. You know what I am dealing with me. Help me look up. Help me take Your hand, and let you “LEAD ME BESIDE QUIET WATERS AND RESTORE MY SOUL.”
