“in You they trusted and were not disappointed.” Psalm 22:5
Our world talks a lot about following our dreams.
What does that look like for a woman after God’s heart?
How do you follow your dreams with God leading the way?
Is it okay to follow your dreams?
Once you become a mom, is it time to set your own dreams aside?
Is your dream totally unrealistic and silly?
Do you catch yourself convincing yourself not to dream?
Do you suppress the desires of your heart deep into the cavern of your soul?
All of these questions have struck a chord in my heart at one time or another over the years. I’ve gone from a little girl dream of wanting to become an Olympic gymnast, to wanting to become an equestrian rider, to wanting to become a professional ballerina, to wanting to become a wife, then a mom, and honestly….the dreams don’t stop! I’ve got big dreams….to write, to dance, to raise three godly men alongside my husband, and dreams to know God more…so that my heart reflects His love, in a way that is all Him. My dreams range to big, impossible ones to smaller, everyday ones.
Dreams have struck me down at times, threatening me to never want to dream again. Doors have been opened. But doors have also been shut. At times, I have caught myself officially declaring in my heart that I am going to officially stop dreaming because it’s officially too hard on my heart! Yep!
Dreaming as a woman of faith requires prayer…..
Dreaming as a woman of faith requires patience….
Dreaming as a woman of faith requires surrender….
Dreaming as a woman of faith requires flexibility….
Dreaming as a woman of faith requires trust….
And sometimes, in this fast-paced, insta-everything….it’s hard to be and do those things.
If you take anything away from this little post, this is what I want you to know….
Dreaming is seeking God.
Dreams are the prayer requests of your heart.
Dreaming is dancing with God through life towards the destination of His beautiful purposes for you.
Dreaming shapes our hearts into the women God created us to be as we seek Him in our dreaming.
Those little heart tugs and pulls that you feel….
Those desires that show up on your heart that surprise you….
Those things that make your heart go pitter patter….
God plants those desires in your heart.
Maybe not every one will come into fruition….but God may use “desire A” to get you to “desire B”….in order to get you to His very best plan and purpose for your life.
The point is that dreaming puts us in a “this is totally impossible without God’s intervention” type of stance….and that’s EXACTLY where He wants us.
Dreaming is leaning on the Holy Spirit for every turn, every step, and every leap of faith.
KEEP DREAMING….whoever and wherever you are….
Write your dreams down in a dream journal. Talk to God about every dream and desire of your heart. Then pray about every dream and desire of your heart….and that seeking, praying, dreaming….will become a dance of getting to know the Creator of your heart in a deeper way.
What are the dreams of your heart?
Prayer: “Dear Lord, here are the dreams of my heart….You know every one and You know every detail. Guide me, Holy Spirit, as I look to You as the Guide of my dreams. Shape my desires so that I may want what You want. Lead me in this dreaming dance.”

This one is soooo beautiful, Sarah and so right on. I love your examples of prayer, surrender and especially patience as we dare to dream and wait for God to guide. He always has perfect timing and you are especially finding that out so that you can encourage others. Thank you for a beautiful reminder.

Another lovely and timely post, Sarah! Thank you so much for sharing this! Dreaming has been a consistent word/theme for me lately…leaning into the God-sized dreams He has planted in my heart. It’s been a long journey and feels very foggy at times, because identifying the dream(s) has been one of the biggest obstacles for me. Thanks for this encouraging reminder of what it means for a woman of faith to pursue her God-given dreams!
