The very first miracle that Jesus performed according to Scripture sits in John 2. Tucked away in a short chapter that takes place at a wedding, it happens so fast and we’ve heard it so many times, that it almost sounds nonchalant. It wasn’t a miracle of life-saving proportions. It was a practical miracle. The guests were out of wine. Jesus took this very practical, normal, and somewhat mundane need and turned it into a divine miracle. He took the most ordinary, common thing, water, infused it with the flow of His power, Spirit, and care and did something that was supposed to be impossible. He transformed water into wine.
He could have planned a more life-altering miracle to present Himself publicly for the first time. But He chose a practical one. He chose to point out that He wants to do very practical every day miracles in our own lives with our own very practical, everyday needs.
The first miracle of Jesus makes me think of all the details and all the little miracles that have to come together for a dancer for a performance day. There are endless details that must all fall into place before the big miracle, if you will, the performance day. Literally from the tips of their tiaras down to the tips of their pointe shoes, dancers must take great care to pay attention to each seemingly minute detail of their costume as well as their movement onstage. Everything from what size rhinestone earrings to be worn, to how the hair will be worn: high bun, low bun, french twist, side part, middle part, no part – oh my! Which pointe shoes? Those details don’t even include the actual hours of rehearsing and learning the choreography. My pointe :) is…there are a maze of details to walk through before the big performance day.
There are so many ordinary, water-like details to life! Dancer or not! As a wife, mama, and writer, carpooler, cook, laundry gal, etc…details are my daily dance! A typical day for me involves juggling lots of details… what’s for dinner for my tribe, getting boys to baseball games on time, editing and writing, straightening the house, etc, etc, etc…details are life! We all are juggling a million details! There’s practical details and then their are heart details…”Lord, I need more of You…Lord where do You want me to go from here…Lord, I lift up this person…Lord this thing feels impossible…”
Whether your details involve rhinestone earrings or the deeper questions of life, daughter of the Wine Maker, I want YOU to hear this today…
Jesus needs you to know that He LOVES to take YOUR ordinary, normal, and even mundane, every day needs and infuse them with the flow of His power, Spirit, and care so that you can experience His miracles in YOUR life!
No need or detail is too small!
That is what makes Jesus’ love so miraculous. There will be days we experience “bigger” miracles, but He invites us to see the everyday ones too! Your everyday needs and cares are miracles in the making.
When Jesus turned water into wine, He showed us that He can turn our every day needs and details into miraculous moments with Him as our Savior. He longs to be that intimately involved in our lives!
Will you talk to Him about your details?
Will you invite Him to make miracles out of your heart needs?
Will you step into the sweetest dance of inviting the Wine Maker into your most common details, practical needs, and heart-felt questions?
Be on the lookout for miracles in your life, sweet one, because if Jesus can turn water into wine, there’s no telling what He can do in YOUR life.
Prayer: “Lord, I give You all the details of my day. Thank You that You care about each one. Lord, wake me up to the miracles You do each and every day in my life. Thank You for loving me so intimately and for wanting to help me in so many ordinary ways. You make ordinary things into miraculous moments. Thank You, Jesus, for the ultimate miracle of salvation…but for going beyond that…You Yourself want to dance with Me every day through the details and needs of my life.”
I wanted to leave you with the lyrics from the song, We Dance, by Bethel Music…
Slow and sweet, we sway
Take the lead and I will follow
Finally ready now
To close my eyes and just believe
That You won’t lead me
Where You don’t goWhen my faith gets tired
And my hope seems lost
You spin me round and round
And remind me of that song
The one You wrote for me
And we danceAnd I’ve been told
To pick up my sword
And fight for love
Little did I know
That Love had won for me
Here in Your armsYou still my heart again
And I breathe You in
Like I’ve never breathed ’till nowWhen my faith gets tired
And my hope seems lost
You spin me round and round
And remind me of that song
The one You wrote for me
And we dance
And I will lock eyes
With the One who’s ransomed me
The One who gave me joy for mourning
And I will lock eyes
With the One who’s chosen me
The One who set my feet to dancingWe dance
Just You and me
It’s nice to know I’m not alone
I found my home here in Your arms
It’s nice to know I’m not alone
I found my home here in Your arms
It’s nice to know I’m not alone
I found my home here in Your arms

Thank you so much for posting this! I am 14 years old and I am dealing with stress that has been hurting my health for months now. I also have my first dance recital in 1 and a half weeks. I really needed this, so thank you for posting it. :)
