We easily get stuck on the goal, the reward, the accomplishment, right? In ballet, the goal, the reward, the main accomplishment, might be getting the lead role or getting a job with a ballet company. It may be getting promoted to the next level or it may be simply the reward of being noticed by the director. We tend to place so much emphasis on the goal, would you agree?
In real life too…it’s so easy to focus on the goal, the reward, and our accomplishments, right? As a writer, it’s tempting to focus on how many people I’m reaching instead of who I am reaching. On social media, for many of us it easily becomes about how many followers we have instead of the hearts that we are engaging with. In real life, the size of our house, or the amount of things we have, or the brand name on our clothes can easily take over our desires, right?
Dear one, we are in this battle together…this battle for our hearts to find their true fulfillment in the only thing that truly fulfills…Jesus Himself. We can let go of striving for the next goal, the next reward, the next accomplishment, more followers, a bigger or better house, things, stuff, brands….we can let go of keeping up with it all. We can let. it. go. And we can rest deeply in the sweetest relief of knowing that Jesus fulfills like nothing else. He is the one and only thing that protects our hearts from the yuck of focusing on the wrong things. He keeps our hearts in line with His heart which is the most fulfilling place for them to be.
I don’t know what you are putting your hope in, but today, be encouraged, be reminded, be nudged….to put your hope in Him every day. Let go of the striving, the climbing, the outdoing, the quest for more, the chasing for more….
Let go and lean back in Grace.
Let go and lean back in Love.
Let go and lean back in Peace.
Let go and lean back in His Presence.
His grace, His love, His peace, and His presence is the greatest goal, the sweetest reward, and the best accomplishment. He is where ourĀ hearts find true rest from the chase of life and learn to dance through the journey and to truly enjoy the journey. The goal, the rewards, the accomplishment, while they are exciting, fun, and rewarding…they are not the end goal. Our hearts won’t finally find full, true, deep peace when we reach that thing. The joy lies in the journey of walking in step with our Savior.
Maybe today, you need permission, like I often need, to let go of finding fulfillment in the results….let your true fulfillment be in the journey of the work, the journey of your art, the journey of partnering with God through the dance of life. Maybe you need gentle permission to let His presence, company, help, love, and graceĀ be your reward.
Where have you been seeking fulfillment?
Is your “where” draining you?
What might happen if you let go of that “where” and sought fulfillment in Jesus alone?
What does that look like practically for you?
Would love to hear your thoughts, sweet ones. And quickly, I just want to note here. Many times, I wonder if these imperfect words make any kind of difference, and then I run into one of you dear ones at the store, in the parking lot at church, or somewhere, and God uses you, as if you were this precious little angel, sent from Him to gently spur me on. You know who you are. And I just want to thank YOU because YOU encourage me…and I need that and your sweet words truly bless me.
