“You lifted me out of the depths…you turned my wailing into dancing.” Psalm 30:1, 11
This is what God does every day for you and me. He lifts us up. He pulls us up and out of any despair we feel. He turns our fears, our tears, our unbelief, our insecurities into dancing. He takes what feels hard, what feels messy, or what feels painful and establishes our hope in Him again and again. He takes what feels impossible and weaves it into not only possible but beautiful as well. God pursues you and me with His relentless love over and over again. He delights in being your shepherd, guiding you and leading you through life.
It’s been on my heart this week that each of us has our own unique dance with the Lord – our own unique relationship with Him. The way I spend time with God is going to look different from the way you spend time with God. I’m a porch/coffee/journal/colored pens kind of gal, and you may be a desk/tea/never write in your bible/pencil kind of gal. My point is, we all are wired differently in the way that we enjoy our time with the Lord. And it’s beautiful. I think about that in life too. What you love to wear is going to look different from what I love to wear. How you fix your hair, do your makeup, exercise, decorate your home, etc. is going to look different from the next gal. And today, I want us to see that that’s so beautiful. I guess what I’m trying to say is this: your life is beautiful. God wired you in a particular way. The things you like and love are gorgeous. And God wants you to dive into that. He wants you to enjoy being you. And oftentimes, as we go about our day and lives, we sort of get sucked into mimicking others. We wind up drifting towards becoming like someone else, instead of becoming ourselves.
But here’s what I know, we all have one thing in common: God loves to turn our lives into full-on dancing. He loves to guide and shepherd us into becoming all that He created us to be. He loves to lead us into becoming ourselves. And as simple as that sounds, I think we’ve all experienced these wobbly moments of feeling unsure of who we are. We’re not sure who God made us to be or what He’s wired us to do. But you know what? That’s the beauty of having the Spirit of God in us. We get to depend on Him to help us find ourselves. We get to lean on Him to help us become more like Him and ultimately more like ourselves.
So today, as you go out into the world and do what you do and spend time with God like you do, enjoy who you are. Enjoy being in process with God. Enjoy seeking Him and learning from Him. Enjoy conversing with Him, asking Him questions, and bringing Him all your fears, tears, unbelief, and insecurities. Enjoy being the gal God made you to be. She’s beautiful. (sorry, I know we have like 2 male readers!) Be her. However in process or messy your heart feels, however unsure you feel of your future, however wobbly you feel in this moment, know God has your steps. He has you. And He’s the master at taking what feels hard and turning it into dancing.
A prayer for your heart today:
Jesus, love on this gal who reads these words. Let her know that you are the master at turning impossibles or things that feel like messes into beauty. Remind her that You have her life in Your hands. Remind her that You are at work in her to shepherd and guide her into all that You created her to be. Help her love who she is. Help her enjoy what she enjoys and do what she was created to do as she looks to You. Help her find her security and identity in knowing that she is Your daughter and that that identity in You is simply enough. Turn any despair, darkness, hopelessness or insecurity, into dancing for her today. Lift her up. Establish her joy. Let her know You’re near. Let her walk in your grace, moment by moment, owning who she is as Your precious child.
Lastly, I hope you know how thankful I am that you are here! Whether you’ve been around this quiet space for years or you’re just joining us, you being here makes my heart all giddy. And I hope these little notes from my heart to yours, bring you a sense of God’s nearness in your life, His sweet company by your side, and a scoop of encouragement for wherever you are in your journey. I love encouraging each of you in your journeys. Thank you again, for being here.
Love and grace,
Sarah
