“Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.”
Psalm 51:12
Our default mode as busy gals is to do our day in our own strength and might. (raising my hand here) We go into “go” mode and often find ourselves weary from plowing through our day. Do you ever get to a place of feeling so busy “doing” that you miss the simple joy of “being?” God invites us to the simple joy and blessing of allowing Him to do our day through us.
All it takes is a willingness to let Him. It’s a willingness to look to God to order our day, lead our way, and guide us in all we do. Sometimes that can feel kind of elusive. We want to see the full, laid-out plan of the day and of our lives, but God asks us to walk by faith. He doesn’t show us the whole plan. He asks us to walk with Him, one moment at a time. And that’s really hard to do sometimes, right?
But when we are willing, just willing, to let Him lead, guide, direct, and order our days and our lives, what He shows us is that there is unexpected joy and delight in that God-paced, God-fueled perspective. When God is leading, we find the deepest joy. When God is leading, we find more peace. When God is leading, our time seems multiplied. When God is leading, we reflect God.
Being willing to let God have His way in us doesn’t look like a formula, a program, or a particular routine. It looks and feels more like dancing, perhaps. It looks more like following the lead of His Spirit and less following of our own ways. It can’t fully be pinpointed down to a perfect structure of our day or our to-do lists. But know this – it will lead to the sweetest joy.
And perhaps, a willing spirit sustains as it says in Psalm 51. When we’re willing, we’re sustained for the day. When we’re willing to follow God’s lead, we have all we need for the day. And maybe being willing comes from a simple prayer, “God, restore to me the joy of your salvation” as the verse begins. When we’re focused on the joy of our salvation, could it be that a more willing spirit to surrender to God in us flows out of that?
Be willing, sweet ones. Don’t strive to be willing, but surrender to Him. In the surrendering, we find a God-paced, God-directed life.
A prayer for your heart: God, restore to me the joy of my salvation. Grant me a willing spirit to follow You, to go where You lead, to let You guide my life and my heart day by day. Make me a woman who is willing to lay down her plans for God’s divine plans for her life.
