“Consider me and answer; Lord my God. RESTORE BRIGHTNESS TO MY EYES.” Psalm 13:3 CSV
How’s your soul today?
I ran across today’s verse (Psalm 13:3) recently, and it makes me smile inside. I keep thinking, what a sweet verse. What a sweet prayer for our souls:
“Lord, restore brightness to my eyes.”
As women living busy lives, doing our things, dancing our dances, and desiring to walk in step with God, it’s easy for us to in a sense, lose the brightness in our eyes.
If we aren’t careful, to-do lists, busy schedules, full lives, and overall busyness depletes our souls and leaves us feeling a bit overwhelmed. And the light in our eyes may just feel a bit dimmed. Today, my hope is that your joy is stirred. My prayer is that the light in your eyes returns.
When the author of this Psalm, David, wrote these words, ya’ll, he was in a serious pickle. In fact, this Psalm is entitled, A Plea for Deliverance. David was literally running for his life. He was literally asking the Lord to help him escape from real, live enemies that were after his life. He was in serious trouble and needing serious help from God.
Sometimes it’s hard to relate to that as we read the Bible. But while we may not be hiding in a cave and running for dear life, I know God wants us to know that these words of David are written for our own hearts to relate to in our current day and age.
What’s your cave? What things are you running from? In what ways is the enemy coming after your heart? What things are dimming the light in your soul and in your eyes?
So many things can dim the light in our souls and our eyes. Let’s brainstorm together:
- To-do lists, busy schedules, and overall busyness (like I mentioned earlier)
- Distractions: social media, TV, the news, and newsfeed
- Comparing our lives to others or wishing we had what we don’t have
- Stress in general
- Striving to live up to expectations we put on ourselves
- Forgetting to rest
- Insecurity
I encourage you to think through what is dimming your light because sweet one, you were meant to GLOW. And I don’t just mean on the outside, but from within.
When these things take over and overwhelm our souls, we feel it. We feel the tension. We feel the weight. But we ALWAYS have hope. We can ALWAYS every day and in any and every situation, call on the Lord. We can bring Him everything. We can tell Him exactly what is causing us to feel stuck. We can tell Him exactly what is depleting our joy. And when we do, He begins to stir our hearts, comfort us where we need comfort, and restore the brightness back to our souls and our eyes.
He’s the brightness, the glow, and the light our souls were made to be plugged into. Our souls need light. Our hearts crave light. And HE IS LIGHT.
He wants you shining from the inside out. So like David, ask Him for light. Ask Him to restore the brightness to your eyes today. When you bring your whole self to Him, He will gladly stir up light in you.
Prayer: “Lord, here are all the things that are depleting my soul. I give you each one. Thank You for the privilege of being your daughter. Thank You for the gift that we have through Jesus of access to You. Thank You that I get to be in a relationship with You. Stir up my joy today. Stir up the light inside me. Show me what’s blocking my joy and untangle my heart from any stress that’s depleting my soul. You are my constant light. You are my constant hope. You are my constant joy. May my eyes be bright with the light of Christ so that I might shine from the inside out for your glory.”
