“For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.”
Romans 6:14
As we look to God to transform us into the women we want to be, we have to be careful that we aren’t always in what I call “improvement-mode”. In our good intentions to grow more into the women we long to be, we can slip into a constant state of wanting to be more and better. And when we feel like we are never quite hitting the mark or living up to the standards we’ve set for ourselves, a sense of despair and failure can set in. And that can make a gal feel quite wobbly-hearted.
Scripture paints a different picture for us. God saved us by grace. Not by what we did, not by what we accomplished, not because we cleaned up our act, not because we hit a certain mark. In His love and by His grace, He saved us. He never asked us to follow a certain set of rules. He simply asks us to believe in Him. We have salvation, eternal life, because of His grace towards us. He adopts us as His children because He loves us, not because we earned it. He calls us “daughter” not because we live perfectly but because we are His. He loves us in our imperfect state. He pursues us because He just wants to be near us. He just wants to help us navigate this life.
He is the God of grace. And as we look to Him, He grows us into women of grace. A woman of grace extends grace to others because she’s filled with His grace. A woman of grace has a deep, down peace in her soul, not because she’s striving to be better but because she knows she’s filled with the One who extends grace to her every day. A woman of grace gives herself grace when she feels like she has messed up. A woman of grace keeps the wonder of the God of grace.
Our transforming into the women we want to be doesn’t have to look like a program or a set of rules. Jesus set us free from all that. Instead, we can walk in His grace and take one grace-step at a time through life. I pray you feel the grace of God extended to you today as you see that He wants you to be you, trusting that He’s at work in you. You can leave the rest up to Him. Grace. Saved by grace. Life in grace.
A prayer for your heart: God, thank You for Your grace. Thank You for Your saving grace for my eternity, and also, Your loving grace you extend to me for this earthly life. Help me live in grace today, not by rules and standards, but by Your Spirit and grace. Make me a woman who exudes the grace of God.
