“When I called, You answered me…” Psalm 138:3
In those moments when all is well, we don’t feel a thirst deep inside. We feel….complete, whole, okay, good, and at peace….and it’s awesome! But some days…we FEEL a deep thirst…for something…
We can be going about our week when this thirst strikes…and if you’re like me, you just want to shake it. We find ourselves asking…”where did this come from, what set it off, why do I feel this way?”
Is it stress? Is it being too busy and overwhelmed? Is it something someone said that rubbed me the wrong way? Were my feelings hurt? Am I just tired?
What am I thirsty for?
Have you been there? I wonder where you are right now. Do you ever feel like you are missing one piece of joy and peace, but you can’t figure out how to find it or even what it is?
I know I try to replace that deep, soul thirst with things, stuff, a shopping spree….or my best trick in the hat is to try to simply stuff it deep down…way down….hoping it will just kind of go away….but it sits there and festers. What is this angst? What is this stress? What is this uncomfortable inner turmoil that strikes us at the oddest times as we go about our life?
Have you been there lately?
I don’t know what put YOU there….but I know what things can put me there….and I bet we are not too different in this aspect….we both hunger for a “more” that we can’t quite name sometimes.
Today, I want you to hear this:
It’s okay. It’s normal. In fact, it’s good to feel that angst, thirst, or stress because if we let it….
it can lead us back to…and even closer to our Savior’s arms.
You see, God doesn’t want us just to BELIEVE in Him…to believe all the right things…all the wonderful things about what He has done for us and that He offers us the free gift of eternal life if we simply believe….of course…that would have been enough!
No…He loves us so much that He wants much more…
He wants a RELATIONSHIP with YOU.
And sometimes relationships aren’t perfect. They ebb and flow, sway and dance, back and forth they go. They are close knit and intimate, but sometimes they veer away and drift away, but the sweetest part is when they miss each other and so they run back towards each other…so thankful to be close again.
He wants all of that with YOU. And if we let it, any HUNGER we feel for whatever MORE we think we are missing….can LEAD US BACK TO INTIMACY WITH THE LORD. He is HUNGRY for more of YOU.
So if you feel a thirst today…an angst, a stress, an unsettling whatchyamacallit….
RUN TO JESUS.
Grab your Bible, a pen, a journal….your heart….break away from your schedule, get a alone with the One who offers BREAD for your soul…. “I am the BREAD of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” John 6:35
Take your soul right to Him and tell Him, as best as you can, what you think is causing your angst…and let Him sort YOU out. I love that…that GOD SORTS US OUT. He sorts out the emotions we feel, the stress we hold, and the deep angst we sometimes feel.
Don’t wait until you feel the thirst….eat of His nourishing bread daily….just like we need food daily for our bodies….we need His food…His Word….daily for our hearts and our souls.
He is the one and only perfect fuel for your heart. He WILL satisfy you when your heart feels thirsty for the more you can’t quite name….
because as we draw near Him we will see that what our souls are actually craving…what we can’t quite name…is HIM….
Our hearts crave more of Jesus. To know Him more. To let Him know us more.
Let your thirst/angst/stress/need be a SIGNAL to you today that your heart is craving to sit with Jesus.
Heart…go sit with Him and let Him fill you back up.
How is your heart today? Do you feel thirsty? Will you choose to let Him fill you? Will you let Him fill you up to overflowing? He sure does want to do that for you TODAY.
