“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:18
For a ballet dancer, plié is probably THE most important movement. Plie is simply bending the knees. It can be from two feet or from one foot. Plie is like a springboard for a dancer. The deeper the plié is, the bigger a dancer can jump. The deeper the plié, the more grounded, sturdy, and steady a dancer becomes. The deeper the plié, the more control a dancer has over her limbs.
I vividly remember one audition I was dancing through…one of the directors of the audition pulled me aside as we were working through the petite allegro combination. I must have been working so hard to make sure my toes were pointed and my legs were straight that I was forgetting something…to plié! She literally told me to “bend my knees” which as a former gymnast who had to work tirelessly to straighten her legs…it just felt so foreign to me. But her correction helped me see that deepening my plié…bending my knees more…would actually help me take off in my dancing. Going deeper in my plié, would actually help me become a stronger dancer.
The Christmas season and life in general require a lot out of us. We are busy gals! We juggle A LOT of stuff! This Christmas may we remember that the key to living well is actually…going deeper…with Christ.
You see, without that deepening in our relationship with Jesus, we become spiritually dry, physically fatigued…frazzled, worn-out, and burnt-out. Without a deep walk with Jesus, we can get so busy doing and accomplishing that our souls simply grow depleted.
May the Christmas season ring in a new tune to our hearts. May we truly grasp how wide and long and high and deep the love of Christ is for each of us.
How are you going deeper with Jesus this Christmas season? How can you go deeper with Jesus when the busyness of the season seems to compel you to keep moving?
I want to encourage you to prioritize your relationship with Jesus above all else. Know that that deepening…that time in His Word, that time talking to Him through prayer, that time listening for His gentle whispers, that time pondering over Him…that time…grounds your heart into His truth. That time grounds your heart in His so that you can truly walk into the rest of your day with His peace, His joy, and His Word strengthening your heart. He loves YOU so much. He wants you to REALLY grasp that this Christmas season. But it takes taking time to go deeper with Him.
As the busyness of the season sets in, may we make our most precious goal to go deeper with our Savior.
Prayer: “Amazing Lord, help me grasp how deep your love for me is. Help me make my relationship with You the priority of my life. I want to grasp Your love this Christmas.”
