“set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2
“Direct my footsteps according to your word…” Psalm 119:133
Putting on stage makeup, for me, was not just putting on fake eyelashes and having fun with bright, red lipstick. Putting on stage makeup was getting in the zone…preparing my mind to stay focused on the performance coming up. That time applying eye shadow, blush, and mascara…headphones in place pouring in music that stirred my heart…was really, helping me get my mind focused on the performance.
Sometimes I would chit chat with the dancer next to me or we would swap stories and so forth…but most times, the dancer next to me…was doing the same thing…staying focused.
It’s so important. Jumping on stage unfocused, unprepared mentally, can be dangerous! That time sitting in front of the dressing room mirror, for me, was the first step in preparing for a great performance.
As we focus on Christmas this December, there’s something I want us to hold onto for the rest of the year. The hope of Christmas is that it’s not just for December! Our Savior is with us every day of the year. Our hope can stay focused on Christ all year. It takes discipline to set our hearts and our minds on Christ. It takes effort on our part to invite Him into our day, to study His Word, and to pray. It takes choosing Him over other things.
May this Christmas, as we focus on and celebrate our Savior, remind us to focus on and celebrate Him all year long! May you take the wonder of Christmas into your year!
After I finished my stage makeup, I would always head to the backstage area to slip into my pointe shoes and to re-warm-up my body. I loved watching all the behind the scenes stuff going on behind the stage curtain…the lighting crew testing the lights, the crew sweeping the stage, the stage manager reviewing cues, and the other dancers going over their choreography.
And this hits me today…
We can simply stay focused on Christ…He is doing all the behind the scenes stuff in your life. He is taking care of that dreaming heart of yours that has hopes, plans, desires, and dreams. He knows the details of your heart. He knows His plans for you. He knows where He is taking you. YOU don’t have to figure all that out. He is directing your footsteps. Your job?
Stay focused on Him. He will take care of all the stuff behind the scenes.
Rest in that today, sister.
Prayer: “Thank You, Lord, that there is rest for my heart, mind, and soul on the other side of staying focused on You. Thank You that You are ordering my footsteps. Show me how to stay focused on You.”
