Sweet girl, the world can feel like it is spinning at times…not just the big, wide expanse of this place called Earth, but sweet one, YOUR world can feel like it’s spinning. I know. I feel it too. Some days, we are in our groove, doing our things, feeling very…in step with our Savior…in tune to God. And then there are days when we stumble over our feet, our mind is in a million places at once, and we seem to sink back into the very habits and mindsets that we desperately want to get out of.
Just this week, my goal was to simply stay focused on the tasks at hand…to let go of multi-tasking and simply take grace-filled steps at a one-at-a-time-ness pace. I felt like I was doing great until I felt the tension in my shoulders rise as I was trying to mentally figure out the logistics for one of my son’s field trip, trying to remember to send cash to the school, making sure I remembered to get one son’s permission slip turned in and the other’s homework signed and in the correct folder…all the while, little snippets of the news and stress of the outside world would seem to sneekily slip into my home and the chaos, angst, and tension…it just got to me. Dear one, I wish I could sit across from you in a quaint little coffee shop and hear what’s on your heart this week….all of it…every nook, cranny, and hangup in your soul because all of our nooks, crannies, and hangups give us a common denominator…we all have nooks, crannies, and hangups in our soul. We are all in need of grace and love and a Savior, all of us, and it makes us sisters.
As my carefully planned out logistic planning completely flew out the window this morning due to another son not feeling well, it occurred to me…
SOMETIMES GOD RESCUES US FROM OUR GOOD, WELL-THOUGHT OUT PLANS BECAUSE HE HAS BETTER PLANS.
I feel the tension I was holding throughout all my planning start to slip off my shoulders as I rest in the truth that God is God and God is in control of the big, wide expanse of the Earth, and God is in control of my small little world, home, and family in this tiny spot in Dallas, Texas.
He’s got me.
And He’s got you. And His plans and ways are always best and good.
So how do we stay centered in a world that’s spinning? Well, my dancing heart of course falls back on the language I know…dance and the music that leads my heart…Scripture….so here we go…
WE KEEP SPOTTING TRUTH.
Dancers keep their eyes focused on ONE THING when they are turning. Dancers, you know this…you breathe it and practically do it in your sleep. Dancers focus on one object, turn, and whip their head around quickly in order to bring their focus right back to that same spot. This spotting prevents dizziness, it keeps the dancer balanced…and CENTERED…right on her leg.
And so, in this same fashion, we as Believers stay centered in life by keeping our focus spot on Scripture. Scripture is our object of centering, our object of focus, and the very thing that brings us back into alignment with God Himself, with our big world, and with our personal world.
Without Scripture, my life would stay spinning.
Scripture keeps me centered, and Scripture will keep you centered if you will let it.
Psalm 119:42 says, “I trust in Your Word.” The living Word of God is the only thing that makes my life, your life, this life… make sense.
And when we stay focused on it, when we base our life on it, we stay centered in a world that’s spinning.
Sweet hearts, keep digging into it. Keep searching the Scriptures for truth, for God’s love notes to your heart, and for comfort. His Word is for YOU.
And this world….it will keep on spinning, but know today that you can stay centered, grounded, strong, and peace-filled because of the truth of God’s Word. And His Word…His Word is God Himself speaking into your life. He, Jesus Himself, keeps you centered, dear one. Stay hungry for the Word and there you will find abundant life.
