“Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” Psalm 100:3
It is so easy to think, “If I just had her body, her hair, her talent, her house… then I would be truly happy.” Insecurity and comparing ourselves to others accomplishes nothing. We have all experienced how comparison simply robs us of our joy. Sometimes we just need a little reminder to get our minds in line with God’s perspective…
There is no one on earth like you! Today’s verse tells us that God made us and we belong to Him! He cares so passionately about each one of us. He designed us perfectly. Every gal is like a unique, beautiful flower – we each carry beauty in our own way. In our world, it’s way too easy to compare. One hop on social media, and suddenly we are not enough. One look around, and suddenly we crave more. One hop of comparison, and suddenly we feel lost. I felt the pull of comparison in the ballet world, I feel it in the mom world, and I even feel it in the writing world. But I’ve learned over and over and over again, the more I look around and compare, the more I forget who I am. Where do you feel the pull of comparison in your life?
I don’t have the perfect answer to stop our comparing ways, but I know we all have access to the Perfect Source for help. The Spirit helps us in our weakness…
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. ” Romans 8:26a
We have a Helper in this battle to stay glued to the truth that God not only made us in a unique way, but that He want us to embrace the way He made us. He wants us to let go of comparing and be who He made us to be. Sometimes our hearts just need a little heart pep talk to get us back in line with the grace of embracing who we are. Embracing that grace to be ourselves, releases us from the chains of comparison.
So a little heart pep talk today…I’m cheering you on…
Today remember that God made YOU and YOU belong to HIM.
Hold onto that simple truth and with His help, step away from comparing thoughts when they try to sneak in, and trade them in for the truth that God made you just the way He wanted. Embrace YOU.
Prayer: “Jesus, today please help me let go of my insecurities and comparing myself to others. Help me be thankful for the way you made me and the fact that I am Your daughter.”
